Turkey meatballs

A couple of weeks back, I was shopping at Cold Storage when I happened to spot lean turkey mince at the frozen meat section. I rarely ever see turkey mince, probably because I normally shop at Fairprice Finest and they doesn't stock turkey mince (or if they do, I've never ever seen it in the meat aisle...).

I kinda like turkey meat, cos well, it's reputed to be sort of a healthier lean choice. So I bought a packet, intending to make some turkey meatballs.

Asian-styled turkey meatballs

I paired the turkey meatballs with a soba noodles dish that I prepare often. I tossed the boiled and rinsed cold soba noodles in a mixture of sesame oil, soy sauce, chili flakes, sesame seeds, mirin, sugar and salt. And depending on the availability, I'll sometimes add in julienned carrots or cabbage.

The meatballs were very moist and flavourful, a pity that the Sis didn't like the addition of chinese parsley (she's never been a big fresh green herbs person boo) so she wrinkled her nose and grumbled when she first saw the meatballs. Then again, it's meat (her favourite), she can never resist any sorta meat that's placed in front of her. So after lunch, I caught her sneaking leftover meatballs into her mouth and I was like "Didn't you say you don't like the chinese parsley taste?" She just shrugged and continue munching. Ha!

Turkey meatballs (adapted from Gina at Skinnytaste)
1/4 cup panko crumbs
250g ground turkey
1/2 egg
1/2 tbsp ginger, minced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 cup chopped chinese parsley
1 1/2 scallions, chopped
1/2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil

Dipping Sauce
2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp fresh lime juice
1 tbsp water

Preheat oven to 260°C.
Mix ground turkey, panko, egg, salt, scallions, chinese parsley, soy sauce, and sesame oil and mix with your hands until combined well. Shape meat mixture into balls and transfer to a baking dish (lined with greased baking paper! :( I forgot and the meatballs stuck to the metal dish.). Bake until cooked through, about 15 minutes.
For the dipping sauce mix together lime juice, water, soy sauce, and sesame oil in a bowl.
Transfer meatballs to a serving dish. Stir sauce, then drizzle meatballs with sauce.

  6. ooo turkey is yum! it's readily available where i live, but it's not such a popular choice even in my household. i like you "made it" Asian, by adding in eastern flavours which reminds me of the Asian sausage rolls my class made in high school. i'll look out for turkey mince next time :)

your sister is just like mine :P
