Chocolate hazelnut feuilletine macarons

I mentioned in my last post that I made lime curd macarons for my girlfriend, I forgot to mention that I also made some chocolate macarons at the same time. Yeah, I like variety and I couldn't imagine just packing a box filled with macarons of the same flavour (don't mind me please, it's just me and one of my weird quirks).

Chocolate hazelnut feuilletine macarons

I decided on chocolate - it was a universal well-liked flavour, so it should be quite a 'safe' choice. Yet, I didn't want to make a plain chocolate macaron, so I decided to sprinkle some feuilletine flakes that I have atop the chocolate shells to primp them up.

Did I mention how I can get totally lazy at some times? Make a guess on what 'shortcut' I used for these?

The filling, of course. As stated in my title, these were chocolate hazelnut macarons. So you see where I'm heading....? I'm talking about that ubiquitous big jar with that white lid of course. *hides face in shame* Yeps, I'm talkin' about Nutella. I have a soft spot for that thing - I mean, it's chocolate and hazelnuts, and since I ran out of cream, I decided to use Nutella instead of making a chocolate ganache for the filling. I was initially afraid that the Nutella would be too runny, but after piping it onto the shells and refrigerating them, it seemed to work fine. The Nutella filling hardened in the fridge and I like how the macaron innards became all brownie-like when you nibble on one straight outta the fridge.

Noms noms

I really really really want to make extra zonky macaron flavours. I have to dig for occasions just so I can have an excuse for making them...

  1. you know, i'm actually not a big fan of nutella coz it tastes like cheap compound choc. i figured out i might wanna make my own nutella one day using milk choc + hazelnut praline paste. i think it would be much better hehe. your macarons look awesome as usual and i wish mine hv got feet like yours!

  2. Ahh I love the flakes these look divine!  Nutella's not lazy, it's delicious ;p.  I've been using up a lot of egg yolks for my baking orders, so I will soon be trying more macs and accumulating yolks again hehe.
