Arancini (Fried Italian risotto balls)

Remember previously when I had cooked mushroom risotto, I said that I had specially saved some leftovers? Yeps, these were the results.

Arancini are fried rice (risotto) balls coated in breadcrumbs. It is said to be of Sicilian origins and can be filled with a variety of fillings, the ones that I've made here are stuffed with loads of mushrooms, bacon and wrapped with brie cheese cubes.

Group Therapy Cafe

Singapore's absolutely swarming with so many new cafes and coffee joints. I've added another ten or so more of names to my to-visit list of cafes.

Some time back, I managed to have brunch at one of the cafes on my list. That's good. I'm slowly making my way through to strike every name off my list. :)

Yuzu tea (honey citron) chiffon cake

In my recent trip to Taiwan (updates to come when I stop procrastinating when to upload the photos!), I visited the Eslite bookstore, which is one of the largest retail bookstore chain in Taiwan. I managed to buy three books (all in Chinese - HA!). I was actually tempted to get more, before I remembered that I had limited luggage space, and books aren't exactly the lightest of things...

Anyway, all three books were food-related (what's new?), with one being a bento-related book, another being a french patisserie book, and a third, a book on chiffon cakes. I decided to try my hand at baking something from my new books after returning to Singapore - so here it is.

Open Door Policy

Tiong Bahru area is becoming quite the hippie hangout place to be. Plenty of cafes and dining spots are mushrooming like crazy over there. I've checked out a few cafes around the area (with some more in mind!), and when my friends suggested having dinner at Open Door Policy, I was all game for it.

Moscato poached pear tart with chai spiced custard and almond crust

About a month ago, I wanted to make something fruity. So I bought some pears. Sugar pears from New Zealand to be exact. Sometimes, I buy the fruit before I know what I want to make with them, while sometimes, I buy them with an idea on what to do with them. It so happens that I did have a recipe in mind...

Earl grey tea roulade

Lately, I've been bookmarking alot of cake recipes. It's nothing new, I do it all the time, but it's interesting to note that while I had been bookmarking mostly entremet recipes mainly, lately, my attention has been diverted to the simpler roll cakes and chiffon cakes. I've never been a fan of both genre of cakes in general, and I'm actually surprised at the direction my attention span has landed in.

Riders Cafe (revisited)

I'm back from my Taiwan trip (unfortunately). Had loads of fun (translation = stuffing myself crazy with lotsa food) and I didn't really want to return to reality (translation = work).

Sad to say, life's always about reality, so back to work I return to. Ciao fun, Hello mundane.

April's gonna be a busy month for me still. The Sis's shop is opening next month, and I've to help her out whenever possible. I have boatloads of photos to edit and I reckon I won't be blogging much still. Here's an interim post on a brunch session I had a couple weeks back with my fave brunch buddy.
